Git MCP server (reference)

MCP server
submitted by u/client to c/backend · 0 uses

Read and operate on local Git repositories: status, diffs, logs, branches, commits.

The reference Git server from the MCP project lets an agent run git status, diff (staged and unstaged), log, show, branch, checkout, add, commit and reset on a local repository. It works only on paths you pass with --repository, and has no network push tool. Commit and reset change your working tree, so review before approving. Good for clients that lack built-in Git tools.

Try asking:

  • "Show me the diff of my staged changes and suggest a commit message."
  • "What changed in the last five commits?"
  • "Create a branch called fix/login-timeout."
