Playwright CLI browser automation (Microsoft)

Skill
submitted by u/client to c/frontend · 0 uses

Control a real browser from the terminal with playwright-cli: navigate, click, fill, test.

Teaches Claude to automate a browser through the playwright-cli tool instead of an MCP server, which keeps context use low. It covers opening pages, reading accessibility snapshots, clicking and filling by element reference, uploads, screenshots, tabs and sessions, and working with Playwright tests. Reference files cover advanced commands. Requires the @playwright/cli package (npm install -g @playwright/cli).

Try asking:

  • "Open our staging site and test the login flow"
  • "Fill out this web form and take a screenshot"
  • "Write a Playwright test for the search page"

Install this skill

Skills are folders with a SKILL.md file. Claude loads one on its own when a task matches its description. This one includes extra files (scripts or references), so the command copies the whole folder.

Claude Code: for every project
npx degit microsoft/playwright-cli/skills/playwright-cli ~/.claude/skills/playwright-cli
Claude Code: this project only (commit it to share with your team)
npx degit microsoft/playwright-cli/skills/playwright-cli .claude/skills/playwright-cli

Made by Microsoft, Apache-2.0 license. Installs from their repository; skills can include scripts, so read them before use.

In the Claude apps, zip the folder and upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
